From experience, Jeromy has observed a direct relation between project success and the effectiveness of teams. He wants to find a way of consistently having that critical success factor for all the projects in his program. There are several team efficiency models including: the GRPI Model of Team Effectiveness, the Katzenbach and Smith Model, the T7 Model of Team Effectiveness, the Hackman Model of Team Effectiveness, the Lencioni Model. Without going into the detail of each, they are common areas that are essential to building an effective team:

·         A common Goal that people commit to,

·         A trusting and open environment,

·         The Skills and Accountability to complete the required tasks,

·         Support providing resources, rewards, information, coaching and mentoring to overcome problems,

·         Approach and structure to make accepted decisions without getting in the way.

Aiming to find a quickly effective and affordable solution, Jeromy looked at several options such as external resourcing, project management tools, collaborations solutions and others. Each have advantages and disadvantages. He found it difficult to find a solution that covers all the success factors above with sufficient confidence at an acceptable cost. He considered total cost with licenses, set up and manpower. He found that the solution should be used by the whole team versus a few select. Depending on the situation, anonymity could eliminate bias and build trust. In other cases, accountability and a framework help achieve accepted results. Looking more closely at Goal Nabber, he found a way to set the foundation for the key success factors of an effective team. The gains outweigh the cost and complement the other program/project resources.
